THE POWER OF SAYING YOUR PEACE

Elephant Journal and Say Your Peace are working on a joint
project about the Power of Saying Your Peace.

We’re excited to announce that we’ve partnered with Elephant Journal to write an exclusive article all about the sharing of experiences and human connection. We have also been working with them to present a conversation between Elephant Journal Founder, Waylon Lewis and singer, composer and transgender activist Beverly Glenn-Copeland on Facebook Live. They discussed interconnectedness, the importance of dialogue, what both dialogue and interconnectedness can help us accomplish, and the relevance of these topics in our world. We invite you to take a look at the wonderful and inspiring conversation below.

Be sure to check out the article written in partnership with Elephant Journal below!

When we’re feeling lost or hurting, who do we turn to?
by Kate Force

Is it a family member, work colleague, or maybe a long-time friend? Perhaps it’s someone else entirely?

Most of us have a few people we can rely on, our designated support systems. Each of these support systems is built up of small “human ecosystems” that serve as our emotional safety net.

At times this net nurtures us, encouraging growth and evolution. Other times it provides us with tough love and different perspectives we may have been too blind to see in the moment. But the beauty of these nets is that they are dynamic. Each individual who is a part of our nets is also handling their own challenges or even pains, responsibilities, hopes, and dreams. They have their own weight to carry.

Happiness — the science of it, the pursuit of it, conquering the roadblocks to it are the focus of this forum, bringing together experts in the areas of positive psychology and mental health, authors and professors. Positive psychology and the elements that fuel emotional wellbeing and contentment has become a flourishing field, as mounting stresses have brought the prioritization of our mental health to the forefront. In a series of panels and workshops, our experts explore the roles of relationships, gratitude, resilience, spirituality, sleep and more, and how we can optimize them toward a life of greater optimism, purpose and joy.

Embodied Activism with Nkem Ndefo and Rae Johnson | The Yoga Show

Originally published on The Yoga Show: The theme of our September/October issue is Healing—and on the latest episode of The Yoga Show we chat with Rae Johnson and Nkem Ndefo, leaders of an Embodied Activism Course from Embodied Philosophy.

Drawing on neuroscience, somatic theory and practice, liberation psychology, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive education, and lived experience, the course examines practical strategies to reclaiming, resisting, and interrogating the political realities of our everyday lives using the felt experiences of our bodies as the groundwork for social justice—so we can come at personal and community healing from the inside out.

Passion, action and hypocrisy. Do you have the capacity to make a change? | IAI

From family feuds to Twitter tirades, many speak passionately about the need for change, and draw inspiration from individuals who risked life and limb for progress. Yet few act on their beliefs, other than the occassional vote, and many continue to participate in systems that they publicly condemn and deem unjust. Are we cowards, hypocrites or worse? Should we accept that we don't have the answers and leave it to those elected to find solutions to intractable problems? Do we have to recognise that individuals don't have the capacity to change the course of history and find content in living according our own values in our own lives? Or is it the duty of all citizens to act on our beliefs and do all we can to change society in ways we think necessary?

Panelists: Anarchist and primitivist ecophilosopher John Zerzan, financial analyst turned Buddhist nun Emma Slade, Novara Media co-founder Aaron Bastani, and former UK Liberal Democrat party leader Vince Cable debate passion, action and hypocrisy. Isabel Hilton hosts.
